KNITWEAR will become your new currency! Loes Veenstra, you’re my hero!

When I said (not that long ago and those of you who know me, may remember the conversation) that cardigans will become the new currency I may have been onto something!

Wool and jumpers/cardigans are so underrated and I find it hard to express my appreciation and love for these items!

Here’s a wee film about a women in Rotterdam that knitted 500 jumpers that weren’t worn until this was made and book produced about her and them! AMAZING!

Since 1955, Loes Veenstra knitted over 500 sweaters and stored them in her home on the 2nd Carnissestraat in Rotterdam. The sweaters have never been worn. Until today.

The sweaters are all presented in a book called “Het Verzameld Breiwerk van Loes Veenstra uit de 2e Carnissestraat” designed by Christien Meindertsma, published by Stichting Kunstimplantaat.

COLOUR spotted at Sainsburys Glasgow!

20140125-231459.jpg

I just had to post this photo of a delightful women that I saw shopping with her granddaughter in Sainsburys last week. I thought she looked fantastic and really colourful.
I hope I’ve got the balls to be this bold when I’m older. There’s definitely not enough people like this! Scotland with its climate definitely needs more colour and this beautiful mature women is doing a great job in my opinion.
My only regret, I forgot to ask her name, how rude of me! If you know who she is, please let me know, I thought she was fantastic and posed for me beautifully so that I could share her look with all of you.

Grace Cathedral in San Fran – Ribbons like Light!

Wow…. 20 miles of ribbon!!!

Image

I just read an amazing blog piece by mymodernmet.com about an art installation…

Graced with Light incorporates both music and video projection.

Artist Anne Patterson is behind Graced With Light, an installation consisting of nearly 1,000 satin ribbons with colors inspired by stained glass. It took the artist months to prepare, which she did in her art studio in Manhattan by constructing a 3/16-inch scale model of it with embroidery floss. Then, on site, it took Patterson and the Grace Cathedral community eight days to hand-assemble the project.

The picture speak for themselves I think, AMAZING and Beautiful, Please can we do more like this in our public buildings, so simple yet so effective!

3D Printing onto Thermochromics – It GLOWS!!!!

A little something I was experimenting with a wee while ago… I’m hoping to pick this up again soon…

Very pretty results if nothing else.. I really liked the way you could track the nozzle not only by it’s movement and noise but also the heat exchange changing the colour of the surface it was printing onto…

The picture below shows only the nozzle’s track and no polymer yet!

Image

The picture below shows how the yellow polymer glows as the magenta thermochromic dye changes under the heat. It’s a 31 degree magenta thermochromic dye on silk that I printed the polymer onto with the Ultimaker 3D printer.
